The night before
Put the check-in instructions, photo ID, parking permit, medication, water, and phone chargers into one bag that never enters the packed trunk. Confirm the route to the exact unloading area rather than the campus main entrance.
Minutes 0-15: check in and look first
Collect keys or access credentials, follow the unloading instructions, and photograph existing damage before moving furniture or stacking boxes against walls.
Minutes 15-35: create four zones
Move boxes into sleep, shower, study, and daily-care zones. Keep walkways, vents, doors, and roommate furniture clear. Do not begin opening every box.
Minutes 35-55: make the bed
The bed becomes the first usable surface and guarantees the student can sleep even if the rest of the room is unfinished. Unpack medication and the shower kit next.
Minutes 55-75: set only the basics
Connect approved power, place the laundry bag, set up the laptop charging spot, and locate trash and recycling. Leave decor and detailed organizing for later.
Minutes 75-90: stop and reset
Break down packaging, move the car if required, write a single buy-later list, and agree on the goodbye time. A calm stopping point is more useful than a perfectly styled room.
