How does Dorm, Sorted. decide what to publish?
Dorm, Sorted. separates official rules from editorial advice, scopes campus facts to the institution or housing context that published them, and labels uncertainty instead of guessing. Product relationships do not replace practical judgment or official housing guidance.
Facts at a glance
| Official policy | Attributed to the publishing institution and shown with scope. |
|---|---|
| Editorial advice | Labeled as a Dorm, Sorted. recommendation with a practical rationale. |
| Uncertainty | Marked verify or unknown; never silently filled in. |
| Commercial links | Disclosed and kept separate from source authority. |
What qualifies for publication
A general guide should answer a real planning question and help a student avoid unnecessary purchases. A campus-specific fact is eligible under the current content contract only when it has a defined subject, a precise institutional or housing scope, and an official source record that supports the claim.
Official policy, Dorm, Sorted. advice, and unresolved questions are presented as different kinds of information. A recommendation must not be written as though a housing office requires it.
Uncertainty, freshness, and corrections
A source verification date records when the cited material was last reviewed. It does not automatically change an article publication or modification date. Superseded, archived, or unavailable sources must be identified before their claims can be republished.
Substantive corrections are recorded in the page change log. A correction changes the visible content and its modification date; a silent freshness-only date change is not permitted.
Recommendations and affiliate relationships
Recommendations are selected for their usefulness in a dorm constraint, not because a retailer pays a commission. Product prices, availability, specifications, and campus rules can change.
Pages with commissionable links require a visible affiliate disclosure. Sponsored links use disclosure attributes, and a retailer page is never treated as authority for a campus rule.
