There is no single CSU dorm rulebook
Housing inventory and safety rules are set by each campus and sometimes by each building. Use this as a framework, then open the housing page linked in your assignment email before buying appliances, bedding, or storage.
SDSU shows why generic lists fail
For fall 2026, SDSU says first-year rooms include a mini-fridge with freezer and a microwave, and students may not bring another mini-fridge. It also says small kitchen appliances can only be used in apartment kitchens, designated kitchenettes, or community kitchens.
Official source: SDSU Housing: Fall 2026 move-inVerify the bed before ordering
SDSU first-year beds are Twin XL, but upper-division bed sizes vary by building. Other CSU campuses also vary. Treat the housing assignment—not a generic college list—as the source of truth.
California heat does not guarantee AC appliances are allowed
Portable air conditioners and space heaters are prohibited at SDSU. Pack a compact fan only after confirming the electrical and appliance policy for your specific campus.
Check micromobility storage
SDSU does not permit bikes, electric scooters, or their batteries inside residential buildings; designated storage must be used. Students bringing a device should verify registration, charging, and storage rules before arrival.
The CSU pre-purchase checklist
Ask these five questions before every bulky purchase.
- Is it already supplied in my building?
- Is it allowed in the room or only in a kitchen?
- What is my exact bed size and under-bed clearance?
- Will a roommate bring the shared item?
- Can I buy it locally after I measure?
Turn the advice into a plan.
The free two-page checklist gives you the core list, the roommate prompts, and a place to flag campus rules.
